The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are acting as if they are the ruling party and not the opposition party. an opposition party should have been organised by now and have a direction, the people should clearly see that direction, but right now the PDP are still arguing over zoning, all because Vice President Atiku Abubakar desperately wants to become the candidate of the party again and the south are saying the party should zone to the south. Atiku Abubakar is the sole candidate holding the party down, if Atiku agrees to step-down the PDP would have move forward from the stagnation of zoning or no zoning and all the rancour and vituperations. They have even not taken advantage of the bad governance of the Buhari’s administration and inform the people on why the APC has no plans.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) administration under Buhari may have done very badly but they are still the ruling party. As a ruling party they have the advantages of winning again, money, power, and the advantage of rigging in their favour which is the norm in Nigeria. When the PDP are still stuck in arguing zoning, the APC may have their own problem, but their problems may be very easy to resolve, they are the ruling party and money can solve a lot of problem. A couple of bigwigs leaving the APC wouldn’t harm the party as it will harm the PDP.
Weak party leaders from Uche Secondus to the present one, Iyorchia Ayu, are not helping the party. Once a National Chairman is not tentative in making decision or imposing himself, the bigwigs and the big egos in the party hijack decision making and make a mess of everything.
Instead of the presidential candidates meeting and deciding what is best for the party, they are more interested in aimless arguments and cheap bickering. This simple lack of organisation and attempts to hijack of the party by individuals and group is the Achilles heels of the PDP.
People like Atiku Abubakar need to step-down and act like elders statesman. The idea that he is the only candidate suitable to be the candidate of the PDP and best to become president is selfish. Times change and people of vision must change according to that time.
